Publication Ethics (COPE)
JELAWAT: Jurnal Ekonomi Laut dan Air Tawar is fully committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics. Every editorial and publication process in this journal complies with the guidelines and best practice principles established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
All parties involved in the publication process — including Authors, Peer Reviewers, and the Editorial Board — are expected to understand, respect, and adhere to the following ethical standards:
1. Duties and Responsibilities of Authors
-
Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that their submitted manuscript is entirely their original work and free from any form of plagiarism, data fabrication, or falsification.
-
Multiple Submissions: Authors must not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal (simultaneous/multiple submission).
-
Authorship of the Paper: Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant and substantive contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study.
-
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Authors must transparently disclose any financial or personal conflicts of interest that might be construed to influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript.
-
Fundamental Errors in Published Works: When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their own published work, it is the author’s obligation to promptly notify the journal editor to retract or correct the paper.
2. Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers
-
Confidentiality: Reviewers must maintain the absolute confidentiality of any manuscripts and related information received for review. They must not be discussed with or disclosed to others without explicit editorial permission.
-
Standards of Objectivity: Reviews must be conducted objectively, honestly, and without personal bias. Reviewers should express their views clearly with supporting arguments and constructive feedback.
-
Conflicts of Interest: Reviewers must immediately disclose any conflicts of interest to the Editor and decline the review assignment if they have competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with any of the authors or institutions connected to the paper.
-
Integrity of Information: Reviewers must not use unpublished materials, data, or ideas disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their personal research or commercial advantage.
3. Duties and Responsibilities of Editors
-
Independent Decisions: Editors make final editorial decisions (accept/reject) independently, fairly, and objectively based solely on the manuscript's academic merit, regardless of the authors' race, gender, religion, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy.
-
Confidentiality: Editors must strictly protect the anonymity of both Authors and Reviewers in accordance with the established Double-Blind Peer Review policy.
-
Handling Publication Misconduct: Editors must address any suspected publication misconduct transparently and responsibly, following the appropriate COPE flowcharts.
-
Corrections and Retractions: Editors are committed to publishing corrections, clarifications, or executing retractions whenever significant errors or ethical violations are proven.
